Dov Krakowski, MA, MSW, LCSW, Senior Psychotherapist
Carl Rogers wrote; therapists should always be mindful that where they trod is sacred ground. I believe that is a foundational element to creating a respectful, authentic and collaborative therapeutic alliance that can help you be your best self. Transformative therapy is more than a place to acquire coping skills or effective communication techniques (though this should also happen). The sacred ground of therapy is where a person feels safe enough to explore his or her fears and longings, past and present, where acceptance leads to curiosity and curiosity leads to new understanding and new perspectives.
I am often struck by people's courage in seeking therapy and in allowing themselves to be open and honest in the presence of another. What is most gratifying for me as a therapist, is when I am able to witness people's "unfolding" as they make contact with the more vulnerable and authentic parts of themselves and I feel privileged to be allowed to participate in this process.
My areas of specialization are: Couple Therapy - conflict, lack of intimacy, infidelity and life transitions that affect a couple's closeness and relationship satisfaction. Individual Therapy: individuals struggling with depression, childhood trauma, anxiety, and family conflict. Family Therapy: child / teen issues, divorce, blended families. In addition to private practice I have a wealth of experience working in a variety of mental health contexts including hospitals and college counseling. I have had extensive advanced training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family and in Emotion Focused Therapy.
